12/10/08 - Week 15

Jon,

Hey i play your brother this week in the 2nd rd of the playoffs, just to make it clear i was not one of the idiots he calls a friend that told him to start gonzalez over bryant haha, but anyways im tryin to knock your brother out of the playoffs for the 3rd straight season but have some tough decisions to make on whom to start this week wondering if you could give me some advice that way we both could have sh*t to talk on him, Sit or Play? Romo sun night game vs Giants or Mcnabb monday night game vs Clev. which 2 WR’s shd i play Vincent Jackson vs KC, Donald Driver vs Jac, Bernard Berrian vs Ari, Lee Evans vs NYJ “Keep in mind i have marshawn n thomas jones at RB in that game already” or Santonio Holmes vs Bal. Thx for your help and SCREW ANDREW!!! hah - Thizzminister

Thizz,

Haha. He was very angry with me once Gonzo scored that TD. You have to play Romo. Its a home game, inside, and he shouldnt have any trouble at all putting up points. McNabb has a home game in philly…I am going there tomorrow and looked up the weather and its suppose to be rainy/snowy/and windy…..not good passing conditions.

WR’s - In the rankings I am about to post in a few minutes I have Jackson and Driver basically even….I have to play driver in one league this week but I like jackson a little more. Berrian would be an interesting play if he didnt do shit last week and now Tavarius Jackson might be the starting qb…..Go Evans…….I’m sure I will hear about this from him also.

12/3/08 - Week 14

Jon,

I must win this week in order to make the playoffs. Our league uses 2 Rb’s and 1 flex and I need to figure out who to start in these 3 positions out of these guys: Westbrook @NYG, SJax @Ari, Hillis vs. KC, and Grant vs. Houston. Latest reports show that Grant will get most or all the carries because he is not limited from his thumb and Brandon Jackson has a lingering hamstring issue. Just going on matchups alone I would sit Westbrook but we learned last week that you can never sit him. What do I do? (Ryan - Dearborn, Michigan)

Ryan - I am sitting Grant here. The Eagles centered their offense around Westbrook last week and it worked wonders. There is no reason they should not try and do that again this week…..actually….Andy Reid might fuck it up somehow. SJax is back and had a solid last game and

even going against an Arizona offense that will put up a lot of points, he can still be involved in the passing game. Hillis has had 3 great weeks in a row. I can’t justify sitting him against a better matchup vs KC. Ryan Grant rushed for 39 yards last week….and 67 rush yards the week before. He also left the game last week with an injury. Even with a good week of practice and rest…..I don’t see how you can play him over either of the 3 you named. Good luck sir. 12/2/08 - Week 14 Dear Rotodorks, Fantasy football is ruining my relationship with my girlfriend. What should I do?!? (Tom - Newport Beach, CA) Tom, Relationships are about give and take, compromises, and forgetting anniversaries. If your girlfriend cares about you then she should realize that you need one day out of the week (and two nights if you count monday and thursday games) to hang out with your buddies, your tv, and your computer to watch football. It isn’t much to ask. I’m sure she will get you to go see Twilight or some other lame movie so the least she can do is bring you and your friends beers during games, or go to her friends house and paint eachother’s nails or whatever it is they do. NO MA’AM. Dear Rotodorks, I am one win from the playoffs. Do I start Devin Hester or Chris Chambers? (Jeff - Seal Beach, CA) Jeff, This is obviously a fake question because nobody can come close to making the playoffs with having either of these WR’s start. If you do reall exist “Jeff” I guess start…..Hester? Doesn’t matter. You will probably lose either way. You must have made some terrible moves or trades to be in this situation. Need advice? Email jon@rotodorks.com or mike@rotodorks.com <!--

Week 15 Player Rankings - UPDATED 12/10/08

QB

1. Peyton Manning vs Detroit

2. Aaron Rodgers @ Jacksonville

3. Kurt Warner vs Minnesota

4. Tony Romo vs Giants

5. Drew Brees @ Chicago

6. Philip Rivers @ Kansas City

7. Tyler Thigpen vs San Diego

8. Donovan McNabb vs Cleveland

9. Jay Cutler @ Carolina

10. Matt Ryan vs Tampa Bay

11. Jeff Garcia @ Atlanta

12. Eli Mannings @ Dallas

13. Matt Cassel @ Oakland

14. Brett Favre vs Buffalo

15. Jake Delhomme vs Denver

16. Jason Campbell @ Cincinnati

17. Shaun Hill @ Miami

18. Matt Schaub vs Tennessee

19. David Gerrard vs Green Bay

20. Kyle Orton vs New Orleans

Matt Cassel can lick my balls: That is just what I felt like titling this week’s QB notes column. I wish he would have returned to the Cassel of old last week and thrown for 400 yards. He probably will this week now that I am not playing him. Lots of things to consider this week such as weather. I still like Drew Brees at Chicago. He played Chicago last year around this time in similar conditions and still threw 2 TD’s. They have so many weapons I don’t think the weather will affect him as much. Keep an eye on weather in Philadelphia to see if you want to play McNabb. I am actually traveling there tomorrow and it said rainy/snowy/windy all weekend. I don’t really like Jay Cutler this week vs Carolina. Too inconsistent.

RUNNING BACKS

1. Brian Westbrook vs Cleveland

2. DeAngelo Williams vs Denver

3. Matt Forte vs New Orleans

4. Adrian Peterson vs Arizona

5. Thomas Jones vs Buffalo

6. LaDainian Tomlinson @ Kansas City

7. Michael Turner vs Tampa Bay

8. Steven Jackson vs Seattle

9. Chris Johnson @ Houston

10. Steve Slaton vs Tennessee

11. Ronnie Brown vs San Francisco

12. Clinton Portis @ Cincinnati

13. Maurice Jones-Drew vs Green Bay

14. Ryan Grant @ Jacksonville

15. Joseph Addai vs Detroit

16. Pierre Thomas @ Chicago

17. Marion Barber vs Giants

18. Larry Johnson vs San Diego

19. Reggie Bush @ Chicago

20. Marshawn Lynch @ Jets

21. Jamal Lewis @ Philadelphia

22. Jonathan Stewart vs Denver

23. Dominic Rhodes vs Detroit

24. LenDale White @ Houston

25. Derrick Ward @ Dallas

The Packers and the Jaguars suck this year: That makes me sad. A lot of good matchups for runningbacks this week leads me to believe there are going to be some very high scores in your leagues this week. A few uncertainties at RB this week as well. Brandon Jacobs is banged up and might not play against Dallas. If he doesn’t I really like Derrick Ward. I like Derrick Ward anyways. I did not include Jacobs on the list because he might not play. Frank Gore is also not on the list because he is banged up. Even if he does play I do not like him because Miami has a tough run defense and he would not be playing at 100%. Deshaun Foster will see a lot of action but….he is not good. Dominic Rhodes makes an appearance because he is stealing time from the big disappointment that is Joeseph Addai. Marion Barber is in the middle of the pack because I am not sure if he will play….but I think he will.

WIDE RECEIVERS

1. Anquan Boldin vs Minnesota

2. Larry Fitzgerald vs Minnesota

3. Steve Smith vs Denver

4. Terrell Owens vs Giants

5. Greg Jennings @ Jacksonville

6. Roddy White vs Tampa Bay

7. Reggie Wayne vs Detroit

8. Andre Johnson vs Tennessee

9. Calvin Johnson @ Indianapolis

10. Brandon Marshall @ Carolina

11. Antonio Bryant @ Atlants

12. Dwayne Bowe vs San Diego

13. T.J Houshmanzadeh vs Washington

14. Lee Evans @ Jets

15. Amani Toomer @ Dallas

16. Wes Welker @ Oakland

17. Eddie Royal @ Carolina

18. Randy Moss @ Oakland

19. Marques Colston @ Chicago

20.Vincent Jackson @ Kansas City

21.Donald Driver @ Jacksonville

22. Santana Moss @ Cincinnati

The Week of the Running Back: Some tougher matchups for the WR’s this week than for the RB’s. Plus the poor weather benefits the RB’s and hurts the WR’s value. I like Dwayne Bowe a lot this week. I think it has a lot to do with Thigpen being on fire (except for last week, sort of). Can Vincent Jackson repeat his performance last week? Probably not but he should still have a nice game. Be sure that the Falcons will be conentrating on Antonio Bryant this week but he will still get his yards. I hope the Jets lose and Cotchery and Coles do nothing.

TIGHT ENDS

1. Tony Gonzalez vs San Diego

2. Dallas Clark vs Detroit

3. Jason Witten vs Giants

4. Antonio Gates @ Kansas City

5. John Carlson @ St Louis

6. Chris Cooley @ Cincinnati

7. Kevin Boss @ Dallas

8. Zach Miller vs New England

9. Dustin Keller vs Buffalo

10. Owen Daniels vs Tennessee

11. Bo Scaife @ Houston

12. Visanthe Shiancoe @ Arizona

Awesome: Visanthe Shiancoe makes the list only because he forgot (or didnt forget) to cover himself up on a live fox broacast in the locker room. That’s all I really have to say about this category.

DEFENSE

1. Baltimore vs Pitt

2. Philadelphia vs Cleveland

3. Pittsburgh @ Baltimore

4. Indianapolis vs Detroit

5. Tennessee @ Houston

6. New England @ Oakland

7. Giants @ Dallas

8. Washington @ Cincinnati

9. Miami vs San Francisco

10. Carolina vs Denver

11. Oakland vs New England

12. Jets vs Buffalo

13. San Diego @ Kansas City

14. Seattle @ St Louis

Believe me: Don’t think about playing your Seattle Defense over your Giants Defense this week. Dallas may score points but the Giants have a play-making defense that gets sacks and is capable of scoring touchdowns. If Seattle holds the Rams to 7 points you dont get nearly as many fantasy points if the Cowboys were to put up 28 on the Giants but force 3 turnovers and get 3 sacks. A soft opponent is always good, unless its a mediocre/bad defense going up against them.

Keep asking Mike those kicker questions, he loves them.

Questions/Comments on the rankings? Disagree?
THE BRAYLON EDWARDS LIST -

Reggie Wayne- I’m sooo over the Colts. I’m sure thousands of teams lost this year because they had taken Wayne and Addai early.

Larry Johnson - Nice job following up that 190+ yard performance against the Broncos earlier this year.

Marshawn Lynch - Even a mediocre game would have gotten me past the first round of playoffs. Special thanks.

Jerricho Cotchery -Congratulations you fooled us into playing you once again. I hope everyone on the Jets breaks a limb.

Hines Ward/Desean Jackson/Darren McFadden- Looking at the boxscore it looks like these guys didnt even play. 0 points all around.

All of my brothers friends- Who told him I was crazy for telling him to play Antonio Bryant over Anthony Gonzalez in the playoffs. Luckily he listened to me.

The Packers - For being my favorite team and sucking so much. I thought Defense was the strong point of this team? Matt Schaub looked like Joe Montana.

Eli Manning - Now thats the Eli Manning I know.

Gus Frerote - Because I told a guy to play him over Donovan McNabb. Not that McNabb lit it up but still…..I expected Berrian to come through some how.

NOT SUCK LIST

DeAngelo Williams - This guy is insane. 300 yards rushing between him and Jonathan Stewart last night.

Brian Westbrook - Hope you played him.

Tashard Choice - Probably played better than Marion Barber would have.

Marion Barber - 2nd week in a row I had him number one. 2nd week in a row I regretted it.

Pierre Thomas- 6 TDs in his last 4 games.

Shaun Hill- I love this guy.

Vincent Jackson - I know a lot of peopel who left him on their bench and are now out of the playoffs because of it. Ouch.

Week 14 Player Rankings - UPDATED 11/26/08

QB

1. Kurt Warner

2. Aaron Rodgers

3. Drew Brees

4. Matt Cassel

5. Jay Cutler

6. Peyton Manning

7. Brett Favre

8. Matt Ryan

9. Tony Romo

10. Tyler Thigpen

11. Eli Manning

12. Donovan McNabb

13. Ben Roethlisberger

14. Shaun Hill

15. Philip Rivers

16. Chad Pennington

17. Kyle Orton

18. Gus Frerote

19. Joe Flacco

20. Jeff Garcia

Things I do not care about: That Matt Cassel had a shitty week last week. He had consecutive 400 yard games before thie Pitt game and now he gets the Seattle defense that cannot defend the pass; I do not care that Chad Pennington threw for over 300 yards the last time he faced Buffalo. After last weeks no show I do not trust him very much; I do not care that Tony Romo is facing the Steelers. They are a great D but the Dallas offense is clicking and I expect nice numbers from Romo.

Running Backs

1. Adrian Peterson

2. Michael Turner

3. LaDanian Tomlinson

4. Matt Forte

5. Steve Slaton

6. Thomas Jones

7. Chris Johnson

8. Peyton Hillis

9. Brandon Jacobs

10. Brian Westbrook

11. Marshawn Lynch

12. DeAngelo Williams

13. Larry Johnson

14. Steven Jackson

15. Maurice Jones-Drew

16. Joseph Addai

17. Frank Gore

18. Reggie Bush

19. Ryan Grant

20. Ronnie Brown

21. Marion Barber

22. Clinton Portis

23. Tim Hightower

24. Justin Fargas

25. LenDale White

Things we learned from last week: Don’t sit Brian Westbrook. Even with 4 bad games before last week he can break out at anytime and this time the offense seemed to center around him. Peyton Hillis made me eat my words and had another good week. He has another favorable matchup this week vs KC. Steve Slaton’s turn to face Green Bay so he moves into the top 5. Despite Tim Hightower’s matchup vs St Louis I still do not trust Hightower to put up big numbers. He probably gets in the end zone once but not much more. <!--

Wide Receivers

1. Anquan Boldin

2. Larry Fitzgerald

3. Greg Jennings

4. Randy Moss

5. Roddy White

6. Calvin Johnson

7. Andre Johnson

8. Steve Smith

9. Brandon Marshall

10. Reggie Wayne

11. Lee Evans

12. Terrell Owens

13. Dwayne Bowe

14. Lance Moore

15. Marques Colston

16. Bernard Berrian

17. Wes Welker

18. Jerricho Cotchery

19. Laveranues Coles

20. Hines Ward

WR’s! - Donald Driver misses the top 20 but I still like him to have a nice game. I also like both Giants receivers, Amani Toomer and Dominick Hixon. Those could be nice sleepers if you are trying to upset a top seed in the playoffs or just get into the playoffs. Andre Johnson is a beast. I have him 7th but he is just an animal and possibly one of my new favorite players. He can do it all.

Tight Ends

1. Tony Gonzalez

2. Jason Witten

3. Antonio Gates

4. Dustin Keller

5. Dallas Clark

6. Tony Scheffler

7. Kevin Boss

8. Zach Miller

9. John Carlson

10. Owen Daniels

11. Bo Scaife

12. Chris Cooley

13. Jeremy Shockey

Could make or break you: John Carlson - 100 yards receiving last week? With Hasselback back on the field could this happen again? ehhhhhh, maybe. Zach Miller seems to be the only player on the Raiders besides Darren McFadden who can catch a pass.

Defenses

1. Titans

2. Vikings

3. Colts

4. Jets

5. Tampa Bay

6. Ravens

7. Giants

8. Steelers

9. Bears

10. Cardinals

11. Patriots

12. Panthers

Defense - Dont be scurred to use the Giants. They force turnovers and get sacks….who cares if they give up a few more points than the Cardinals will. Colts Defense is on fire. Great matchup there as well.

KICKERS - Mike has been emailing me all week about his kicker sleepers this week so please flood his inbox at mike@rotodorks.com with all questions. This could win you your game.

Questions/Comments on the rankings? Disagree? Think I am in idiot? Email jon@rotodorks.com and I will tell you how wrong you are.

So many people in sports hop on what I call the slurp wagon, one day an athlete is bordering on mediocrity the next moment they are Michael Jordan. Give me a break. The guy has two monster weeks. Stop slurping. People are slurping so hard that they are talking about trading brady because cassel is better. Wow. Let that sit in a second. Cassel has two big weeks and the slurp wagon takes off like sorority girl in an elbow licking contest. Also what did he do last week: 39.4 QB rating, 169 yards 0 TDs, 2 INTs, oh and 2 fumbles lost.

Lets look at some other numbers:

Cassel has played 12 games, he has a rating of 85.5 completion % of 64.6, 13 TDs, 10 INTs, 2748 YDS.

Tom Brady played 16 games last season, but to be fair lets use 3/4 of those numbers (12 games).

Tom Brady prorated to 12 games, 117 rating, 63% completion, 37.5 TDs 6 INTs 3604 YDS. Result: Brady > Cassel.

Assuming last year was a total fluke for Brady how about the year before.

2006 Brady, Prorated to 12 games, 87 rating, 61% comp, 18TDs 9 INTs, 2646 YDs. Result: Brady > Cassel.

But Brady is 5 years older than Cassel - shut up.

Based on my rigorous statistical analysis Matt Cassel is 35-72% of the man Tom Brady is. This allows us to draw some interesting comparisons.

35% of Gisele Bundcheon:

gets you this:

35% of Endorsement deals Brady has:

gets you this:

Ring Count: Brady: 3. Cassel: 0.

I don’t even like Tom Brady that much. But please, stop slurpin’ Cassel.

please email me and argue with me: mike@rotodorks.com

WEEK 13 RECAP

NOT SUCK LIST -

Brian Westbrook - Holy shit! After 4 bad games in a row? How was I supposed to know? This is not my fault.

Donovan McNabb - One reader went against my email advice and sat McNabb in favor of Pennington. Her ex boyfriend told her to do so. He is an EX for a reason. That reason being because he is clearly retarded.

DeAngelo Williams - Was ranked 3 in our rankings and it definitely paid off. My poor, poor Green Bay Packers can’t stop anyone. =/

Thomas Jones -So I knew he would have a good year, but this good? I’m the a-hole that traded him during week 5 for Calvin Johnson.

Peyton Hillis - 3 weeks in a row now and now he gets the Chiefs?? Rather have him than Marion Barber.

Jason Witten - I was one week off but he’s back. Right in time for ff playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers - This guy catches a lot of flack because of some INT’s but he racks up yards and TD’s each week. In one league I am in one guy has Rodgers and Drew Brees. Why not trade one of them for a great WR or RB?? This man did not make the playoffs.

SUCK LIST

Braylon Edwards -One more week and I am thinking of changing the name of the list to the Braylon Edwards List.

Laveranues Coles - Because you got 0 points and because I hate spelling your first name.

Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, Peyton Manning - Thanks guys. Really. Thanks.

Marion Barber - 2nd week in a row I had him number one. 2nd week in a row I regretted it.

Chad Pennington - Didn’t he play the Rams? How did he not throw a TD?

Maurice Jones Drew - Another guy with a great matchup. My poor poor Jags. At least my John Henderson jersey is in the mail.

Definitely half assed it this week on the list but mainly because you all know who did what by now. Rankings coming out tomorrow for week 14. Keep coming to those Sunday morning last minute advice chats!
